The Chroniclers

Record-Keepers of Castle Marrach

Castle

Ser Blancheflour's Missive

To all residents of the castle,

Do to several inquiries of late, Sir Launfal has asked me to post regarding the position of Junior Chronicler.

The Chroniclers provide a vital contribution to the society of the castle, by maintaining on ongoing record of castle life and sharing the experience of notable events with those who were not in attendance themselves. The Queen and her Court rely upon these chronicles to keep them informed about what goes on within the castle beyond the royal presence. Indeed, it is not uncommon for a chronicler to be called before the Royal Court in order to present their version of events.

Of course, chroniclers are expected to maintain an objective attitude in their reports. We are often called upon to record the statements of individuals involved in questionable incidents, which may be later be used as part of a formal investigation. At other times, we may be required to attend significant events, in order that an impartial record may be preserved.

Aside from any specific records a Junior Chronicler might be asked to make, they are also asked to share regularly with the castle (via these forums) the daily events of life here. Beyond Convocations and Royal Balls, beyond criminal investigations and grand displays of magic, there are many small events and happenings that are of interest to many, and it is our duty to record and share them.

As you can see, the position of Junior Chronicler is an honored and valued one. In fact, it is one of the few court appointments that may be earned by those newly come to the castle, and may lead to greater honors for those who carry out their duties well. And, along with the possibility of advancement, the position offers the ability to meet and interact with a wide variety of castle residents, to hear their stories, to share in their joys and woes, and to assist in preserving those stories for all time.

Those who are interested in becoming a Junior Chronicler should approach Sir Launfal directly, but is it wise to prepare a sample of your work beforehand, to demonstrate your skill and understanding of the task. Recall that your chronicle does not need to be of a large event, but of any notable occurance, whether two or twenty people were involved.

Those who wish to request the services of a Junior Chronicler--to make a record of a guild event, for example, or to make a personal statement--should speak to the Lord Chamberlain. Such records shall be kept private or made public at the behest of the requestor. Junior Chroniclers may be recognized by their distinctive tabards and badges, and most likely by the stains of ink upon their fingers....

Please feel free to speak to Sir Launfal or with myself regarding what I have written here.

With respect,
Blancheflour, Junior Chronicler
