Aubrin is off doing something. He should return soon. - * - Albus' Dialogues January 17, 1219 Mid-day Received a letter today from an old friend. Larissa. She offered a special invitation to myself, Berengarius, Lorum, and Viator. Wants us to join in some sort of contest. Hearing the call for a contest, I of course agreed. Even though it's in the Goddess' realm. That awful place that turned me yellow. I'm bringing Tara. My fellows are bringing animals for whatever reason. Lorum is bringing his rabbit--Fraternus. Viator is bringing his weasel--Subpedes. Berengarius is bringing his mouse--Remus--as well as Chicken #5. There's been some little discussion about the rank of animals. Berengarius has named Remus a grog Sgt. Viator named Subpedes a Lt. Silliness. In any case we need to head down to the May Queen. From there we can take the trods to the Goddess' realm. I've been meaning to speak to the May Queen since that snow incident last year. - * - 100 Mages Surveyed - Least Favorite House in the Order Survey Says: 1. Quaesitor - 15 2. Diedne - 14 3. Chased them away and took their stuff. - * - 100 Residents of Prospectus Locus Surveyed - Favorite Magus Survey Says: 1. Aubrin - 40 2. Viator - 22 3. Drake - 21 4. Risus - 6 5. Albus - 5 - * - Albus' Dialogues January 22, 1219 Mid-day We're now resting in the Goddesses' realm. We stepped through the May Queen's realm. I tried to see her, but she was absent. I had hoped to ask about this related-to-faeries thing. We got on the trods after that and went down to the Goddesses' realm. Weird things are going on down in the Goddesses' realm. Her water tunnels were dried up. Her wheel of fortune was gone. No one got teleported away at the rear door. In town things seemed very unfaerie. The fay aura was gone, replaced by something else. We found Larissa's house and gave her the presents we'd selected. After I learned the Goddess only demanded presents on Winter Solstice, I gave Larissa the extra nice earrings that I'd selected for the Goddess. After that we shopped for a while. Then we returned to Larissa's. She told us that the four of us would form two teams. We'd also be facing a team of two lizard men. Berengarius had his chicken select the teams. I decided I wanted to be teamed with Viator, to optimize my chances of winning. So, I influenced the chicken. Viator and I form one team. Lorum and Berengarius form another. The contest should begin in a few hours. - * - 100 Criamon Surveyed - Most Common Twilight Experience 1. Eh? - 27 2. Opposite Self - 16 3. Meet Higher Power - 10 4. Fire/Earth/Water/Air - 9 5. Darkness with Flashes of Light - 4 - * - Albus' Dialogues January 22, 1219 Evening I'm afraid that Larissa's contest was somewhat disappointing. I was hoping to run naked through the winter snow. To wrestle with bears in lairs. To fight with blades for honor and glory. Instead we drew pictures, pantomined, answered questions about each other, and guessed what results surveys might discover. Silliness. - * - Albus' Answers About Viator 1. What's their favorite spell? Cozy Cloak of Ignem (incorrect) 2. What's their least favorite technique? Perdo (correct) 3. Who's their greatest enemy? Dux Aquil (incorrect) 4. What's their most annoying attribute? Refusing to kill people (correct) 5. What side of their body do they sleep on? Back (correct) 6. Wine sipper or beer swigger? Wine Sipper (correct) - * - Albus' Dialogues January 22, 1219 Evening (continued) Viator and I practiced before hand. So, we were able to do very well in the first round. When we answered questions about each other. Afterward we were winning. We were unprepared for the rest of the tests, however. Next we had to draw and pantomine, based on items given to us by the judges. I had to pantomine "a small tree falls on a badger. The badger is frustrated". Viator was forced to pantomine "a miracle". Berengarius and Lorum got much easier pantomines, like "a burglar climbing up to the second story of a home, being spotted by guards, trying to flee but is shot by arrows" and "a woodscutter going about his business chopping trees. A bear attacks him, he runs but is cornered in a cave, bravely he fights and manages to defeat the bear while taking some wounds. He celebrates his victory." They got every single pantomine and drawing right. They must have been cheating. - * - Lorum's Answers About Berengarius 1. Who's their favorite grog? The Mouse (correct) 2. Who's their favorite archmage? That old guy who will head the next tribunal (incorrect) 3. Who's their favorite major demon? That chick that tried to turn the river to fire (correct) 4. Who's their favorite faerie lord? Vole Queen (incorrect) 5. What's their favorite dessert? Ice cream (incorrect) - * - Albus' Dialogues January 22, 1219 Evening (continued) The lizard men were knocked out of the contest after the first two rounds. For the final round, just we magi of Prospectus Locus faced off. Unfortunately, the questions were silly. We were forced to discover what results hypothetical surveys might turn up. The Merinita and Criamon were better at answering these silly questions. They beat us badly. Lorum and Berengarius were named the big winners. Berengarius got a crystal ball which had a panorama of Prospectus Locus inside. Lorum got some sort of steel round-killing-thing. Viator and I got consolation prizes. He got some chocolates. I received a pen that contains its own ink. We'll be leaving the Goddesses' realm soon. - * - 100 Peasants Surveyed - Top Ways to Die in the Middle Ages 1. Old Age - 32 2.
